The Boyle Bantam Blazers are now the proud owners of some gold provincial hardware, after competing against the Hanna Colts in the Bantam ‘D' provincial final and coming out victorious.

Andy Harnett, Blazers head coach, said the players battled and worked hard to get to the top.

“We're ecstatic – it's awesome,” he said. “It's a great feeling to see all those big smiles on all the kids faces. They worked so hard to get to where we're at, and to actually win it is fantastic.”

The Blazers faced Westlock in the semifinals and took a narrow 2-1 win, placing them against the provincials hosting team, Hanna.

Harnett said the championship game started out “pretty tight” with goose eggs on both sides at the end of the first period. In the second period the Blazers scored one fairly quickly, but then the Colts tied the game with about a minute left in the period.

“We came out in the third period, and that's where it changed, the guys switched gears there,” Harnett said.

The Blazers two captains Logan Radmanovich and Ethan Harnett “did really well,” Harnett said, and accounted for all the goals.

Harnett said he wasn't surprised by the outcome, and that he had a good feeling about provincials throughout the season.

“We had a really strong core of kids, and they had a lot of heart and determination, they played hard all year,” he said.
