Coun. Tim Verhaeghe made the motion. Mayor Roger Morrill and Coun. Steve Schafer supported it. Coun. Shelly Gurba voted against it after a pause.

“Yeah, I'm going to be opposed, ” she said during the vote.

Councillors Tanu Evans, Joanne Peckham and Nichole Adams, who were present at the meeting earlier, were all absent from the vote.

Verhaeghe also made a motion to accept interim CAO Warren Zyla's resignation as of Oct. 7 - noting that he could step out earlier if he chooses - and to approach and appoint Doug Topinka as the interim CAO until a replacement can be found, if he is willing.

Morrill, Verhaeghe and Schafer voted for the motion; Gurba opposed it.

There was no further discussion of the issue in chambers in public.

Topinka is the town's former CAO. He retired in July 2012.
