Highway 63 between Grassland and Wandering River was blocked off for approximately five hours Jan. 6 after a single-vehicle collision involving a logging truck.

According to a press release from the Boyle RCMP, police were called to the scene around 5 a.m. on Highway 63 at kilometre 32 in the northbound lane.

Boyle Cst. Andrew Deme said the logging truck was southbound when one of its tires blew.

“He then proceeded into the centre ditch and then crossed over into the northbound lane where he came to a stop where the face of the truck was facing south in the northbound lane,” Deme said.

He added that investigations showed there were no other factors involved in the collision, and there were no objects on the road.

“Just a tire blowout, unfortunately. It was a wrong-place-wrong-time for it to happen,” Deme said.

The male driver was not injured, and no other vehicles were involved.

Police asked motorists to avoid the area while investigations proceeded and both lanes were closed to traffic.

The press release reminded motorists that when traffic is stopped due to a collision to remain in their vehicles and not approach the scene.

“It’s a common occurrence we see now, especially on Highway 63 when we do have to close it. People like to come up and ask questions such as when the highway will be open,” Deme said.

“They are putting themselves at risk,” he added. “If we’re closing the highway down our primary focus is on completing the investigation in a professional and timely manner so we can open the highway and get people moving.”
