A man facing a charge of second-degree murder after the death of a Smith woman is set to appear for a preliminary hearing July 9-13 in Slave Lake Provincial Court.

A man facing a charge of second-degree murder after the death of a Smith woman is set to appear for a preliminary hearing July 9-13 in Slave Lake Provincial Court.

Randy Potskin was charged in relation to the death of 25-year-old Chantelle Hole in June.

According to Justice and Solicitor Justice media relations, the accused last appeared in Slave Lake Provincial Court Nov. 29, and has not entered pleas yet.

An RCMP press release from June states that on June 2, RCMP arrested Randy Potskin on charges for Hole’s murder.

The release states he was remanded into custody.

The release also states that on April 29, RCMP responded to a 911 caller who said they had found a deceased woman, later found to be Hole, in her rural Smith residence.

In June, RCMP media relations officer Ronald Bumbry said because the matter is before the courts, RCMP members are unable to provide further detail on the arrest of Potskin.

“Once it’s at the court system, which this one in particular has reached that point, we don’t speak to it further because we don’t want to jeopardize anything in regards to our investigation,” he said at the time.

A June 5 media release from the RCMP states Hole’s family has asked their privacy be respected.
