RE: "New School, Old Name”

Upon reading last week’s article (April 26, 2016, Page 26A), I would like to clarify that my decision was based not on my preference in the least but, rather, on the feedback I had received from several members of the public.

Upon reading last week’s article (April 26, 2016, Page 26A), I would like to clarify that my decision was based not on my preference in the least but, rather, on the feedback I had received from several members of the public. Indeed, there were some who indicated they would like a new name for the new school; however, the majority expressed a preference for preserving the memory of Edwin Parr through the new school in Athabasca. That being said, it was recommended by most that there be consistent annual teaching for our students and communities about Edwin Parr and the impact he had on education in the Province of Alberta. We will endeavour to accomplish this. I thank those who have contacted me about this and any other matter; your interest and input about education in our division is essential and invaluable!
