Athabasca RCMP are seeking tips from the public in order to locate culprits responsible for a vehicle theft from Select Equipment Rentals Dec. 31.

Cpl. Dale Bereza said members received the complaint at 11 a.m., and the property owner thought the theft had occurred in the early morning hours, around 3 a.m.

The suspects cut a hole in the property fence, then started the vehicle and drove it through the gate of the fenced compound.

“Just the fence, they cut the fence there like in the report then took the truck through the cut fence,” Bereza said. “Nothing more that we're aware of. We're hoping if anybody happened to see it or knows anybody that's responsible, definitely give us a shout.”

Anyone with information in relation to this incident can call the Athabasca RCMP with tips at 780-675-5122, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.tipsubmit.com.

A pedestrian was struck while crossing the 49th Avenue and 49th Street intersection Dec. 21, RCMP report.

Bereza said a woman in her mid-50s was driving slowly south through the intersection, and did not see a pedestrian crossing the street, due to sun glare.

“A pedestrian was crossing at a cross walk, and it ended up the person was going through slow because they couldn't see, the sun was in their eyes. The person was crossing, and basically ended up bumping the person,” he said.

The pedestrian, a woman in her 70s according to Bereza, was taken to hospital by ambulance, but there were no major injuries.

He added no charges were laid, as the situation was “out of (the driver's) hands.”
