For the first time in a long time, MMA fighter Tim "The Thrashing Machine" Hague was able to fight off some demons en-route to a knockout (KO) win over Zak Jensen in MMA's Aggression 4 Victory on July 9 at the Edmonton Expo Centre.
"I was surprised he was knocked out, but it was a great feeling to get the win," Hague told the Advocate last week.
In front of his hometown fans, Hague won his first professional fight since defeating Pat Berry on May 23, 2010 in his UFC debut.
Hague's latest fight against Jensen began with a big shot from the Boyle native, but Jensen fired back with a couple punches resulting in a fall to the mat by Hague.
With Hague on the ground, Jensen tried to wrap up the fight with a guillotine maneuver, but was unable to finish Hague off.
As the fight continued in the first round, both men tied each other up in the centre of the ring before Jensen was able to nail Hague with a series of solid right punches, followed by a head kick that resulted in Hague going down once again.
Looking to take advantage, Jensen jumped on top of Hague and began to unleash punch after punch on the 27-year-old.
Dazed and visibly shaken, Hague struggled to thwart off Jensen's attacks, and, fortunately, was able to find his composure and get back on his feet early in round one.
Jensen continued the onslaught with a couple of uppercuts.
Then, out of nowhere Hague landed a devastating knee to the Minnesota native's mid-section.
The knee ended up knocking him out cold and giving the victory to Hague at the 2:11 mark of the first round.
For Hague, being able to mount a comeback after finding himself down earlier on should go a long way.
Hague will now return to his rigorous training regiments in order to drop some weight for his next fight on Oct. 1, 2010 at the Edmonton Expo Centre against an unknown opponent.
"I'm going to be dropping some weight for my next fight so I hope to be around 155 pounds. I want to be quicker and in better cardiovascular shape than my opponents," said Hague.
After his October fight, Hague is uncertain where his fighting career will take him, but if another UFC opportunity comes knocking he'll be more than happy to take it.
"I might go back to work for the winter, but I'm going to take it one fight at a time," explained Hague.
This victory puts Hague's MMA record at 15-11.
Hague's latest win over Jensen is the first knockout in his career.
Hague's prior three losses all came during his short UFC stint, where he lost to Joey Beltran, Chris Tuchscherer and Todd Duffee. |
