The Athabasca Senior's Centre was filled with hunters of all ages as the Athabasca Fish and Game Association (AFGA) held its 49th annual trophy night and supper April 29.

“We had a good turnout, ” said AFGA president Brian Rudyk. “We had a full house from youngsters to seasoned outdoors people of all age groups. ”

Over 120 people attended the event where the association recognized the accomplishments of its members in the outdoors.

“It's a recognition event for people's success over the season but also people that go above and beyond for conservation efforts and to support and help look after our wildlife and wild places, ” Rudyk said.

Rudyk said the AFGA has seen an increase in the number of younger people and women who are taking an active part in hunting and taking home prizes. The money raised at the supper will sponsor some of its younger members in going to the Narrow Lake Conservation Camp.

Sixteen-year-old Tiana Eleniak is one of the young people in the association who will be sponsored to attend the camp, where she will learn about hunting safety. Eleniak - who began hunting at 13 years old - won the youth division with her black bear submission.
