Candidates submit their nomination forms

Candidates for public office in Athabasca County, the Town of Athabasca, the Village of Boyle and Aspen View Public Schools submitted their nomination papers Sept. 18 between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. There will be elections in all four governing bodies.

Candidates for public office in Athabasca County, the Town of Athabasca, the Village of Boyle and Aspen View Public Schools submitted their nomination papers Sept. 18 between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. There will be elections in all four governing bodies.

At the Town of Athabasca office there was a line of candidates ready to submit their nomination papers right at 10 a.m., with Ida Edwards being the first in line. There are 12 individuals who will be running for the town’s six council seats, and four candidates running for mayor.

For mayor:

Laurie Bonell, Roger Morrill*, Colleen Powell, Robert Woito

For council:

Michael Arychuk, Robert Balay, Dan Bonell, Tannia Cherniwchan, Ida Edwards, Neil Galus, Shelly Gurba*, Heather Kariel, David Pacholok, Joanne Peckham*, Steven Schafer* and John Traynor.

Athabasca County

Three seats have already been acclaimed for Athabasca County, including Division 2 (Colinton area), Dennis Willcott*, Division 3 (Boyle area) Doris Splane*, and Division 7 (Grassland area), Travais Johnson.

There are two candidates running for each other division:

Division 1 (Rochester-Perryvale area) Allen Balay and Dwayne Rawson

Division 4 (Southwest Athabasca) Christine Bilsky* and Douglas Slatnik

Division 5 (East Athabasca) Mike Cottrell and Kevin Haines*

Division 6 (Wandering River area) Jack Dowhaluk* and Penny Stewart

Division 8 (Northwest, Baptiste/Island Lake area) Larry Armfelt* and Gloria Bury

Division 9 (North of Athabasca River) Warren Griffin* and Harold Krawec.

Athabasca County council will determine who will serve as after the Municipal Election Oct. 16.

Aspen View Public Schools Division

Four seats have been acclaimed already for the Aspen View Public Schools Division board of trustees, and three seats will be determined by election.

Nancy Sand* was acclaimed as Ward 1 (Northwest) trustee, Candyce Nikipelo* was acclaimed for Ward 4 (Northeast) trustee, April Bauer was acclaimed was Ward 4 (Southwest) trustee, which was previously vacant. Donna Cherniwchan* acclaimed the Ward 6 (Southeast) trustee seat.

Two trustees will be elected from three candidates in Ward 2 (North central), including Monique Fehr, Anne Karczmarczyk* and Dennis MacNeil*.

In Ward 5 (South central), Elohne Chizawsky* will be running against Tom Mykytiuk.

Village of Boyle

Only one person who submitted their nomination papers for Village of Boyle council will not get a seat at the table.

Six candidates submitted their nomination papers, and are competing for one of five council seats. These are:

Colin Derko*, Barbara Smith, Mike Antal*, Patrick Ferguson Sam Assaf* and Shelby Kiteley.

Village of Boyle council will choose their mayor after election time.

All nominations are unofficial until 12 p.m. Sept. 19.
