Freedom to speak

In response to Lorraine Mahe’s letter: It is good to know you enjoyed your visit to Athabasca.. Many of us living here feel that we have won the lottery.. you cannot find a better country, and you cannot settle in a better little town.

In response to Lorraine Mahe’s letter: It is good to know you enjoyed your visit to Athabasca.. Many of us living here feel that we have won the lottery.. you cannot find a better country, and you cannot settle in a better little town. Come again any time, you are always welcome.
You wrote: “I had family who fought in the last world war and I feel very strongly about keeping this country free, we have freedom of speech and religion, that came at great cost. If you take away some peoples rights be prepared to lose yours as there is always someone who will disagree with you. In this world right now there are countries that are torturing and killing people for their beliefs and life styles. Let us as Canadians respect one another before we lose our freedoms altogether.”
Many of us have family who have fought in wars. I agree with you: freedom comes at great cost, and the cost is a daily cost.. not a one-time cost paid by our ancestors. Members of my family who fought in WWII did not fight to ensure freedom from criticism, and when I read the stuff on Max Solbrekken’s site I see a not insignificant amount of dangerous nonsense. If we have freedom to erect revival tents and listen to this man’s nonsense, then surely we have freedom to speak critically against the nonsense.
