The Road to Hope Community Support Foundation received a donation from a grateful supporter and a past user of their services.

On May 29, Susan Galloway, who performed her one-woman show, "The Young and the Breastless," at the Nancy Appleby Theatre May 5-6, donated $257.65 to the foundation.

"It was fun travelling with the drivers of the foundation," said Galloway. "It was all laughter and fun conversations all the way through the journey, largely thanks to them. In one case, I drove with Sheena Pacholok, and we sang ABBA tunes all the way there and all the way back. It was fun."

Through her one-woman show, she felt the need to tell her story about her struggle with breast cancer.

"I felt that it needed to be told in a musical/comedy format," Galloway said. "It need to be fun, not the doom and gloom you normally hear about."

The foundation's transportation coordinator, Madena Reimer, said the non-profit group provides transportation for rural-area sufferers who need to get to their appointments which can of their communities.

"We've been super busy with our foundation," said Reimer. "This is actually the busiest time we have seen in 10 years, and in the last three months, we have averaged about 42 trips per month. So we are actually, in some cases, tripling the amount of people that we are helping in the Athabasca and Lac La Biche areas."

She added added there are still lots of people who can not get to their treatments for a variety of reasons.

"Whether it be financial, no family, no energy, sick, or whatever the reason is," Reimer said. "We really are a lifeline to those who are undergoing cancer right now."

She said her drivers, currently numbering about 15, are still seeing steady work going to and from a treatment.

"Some of them go three or four times a week right now, just to keep up with the schedule," Reimer continued. "Without the drivers, we would not have an organization."

She said that anyone who would like to donate time once a week, or once a month, and become a Road to Hope driver, can call her at 780-327-9442. She can also be contacted by email at [email protected].
