So far so good

I've now been on the job here at the Advocate for about a month now, and so far, I like what I have seen. Other than the view, which is quite beautiful by the way, the people I have encountered thus far have been quite friendly.

I've now been on the job here at the Advocate for about a month now, and so far, I like what I have seen.

Other than the view, which is quite beautiful by the way, the people I have encountered thus far have been quite friendly. I have attended council meetings, school board meetings, court proceedings, and I have even attended the St. Gabriel's Church on Sundays.

But on May 11, I actually got to bring my daughter Selena with me on an assignment, and that, of course, was the year-end performance of the Athabasca Dance Society, with the show being called ICONS. And my four-year-old really enjoyed it. There were times she really wanted to get up on stage to join the performers. I asked her which her favourite performance was, and that was the World War II victory dance performed at the end, with went with the song "Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing)" by James Horner.

And now, after this, she's begging my wife and me to sign her up for next year's classes. Well, we will see about that.

I also recently took advantage of the government's expansion of the $25-a-day daycare program, and as a result, I did sign my two girls up. My youngest, Charlotte – it took some getting used to it for her, as she hasn't been away from mommy or daddy for long periods as of yet, but she is getting better aquatinted, and is really starting to enjoy playing with the other kids at Whispering Hills. Selena, on the other hand, I have to literally pull her away from there when it is home time. That's how much she really enjoys it.

With all this talk of the UCP wanting to repeal everything that the NDP has put in during their term, I sure hope they keep the $25-a-day daycare program intact. This really is a great and affordable program for families who otherwise could not afford childcare.

Going off on a tangent for a second, boy did the Toronto Raptors fall flat on their faces in Round Two of the NBA playoffs. Despite having their best year ever, and being the highest ranked team in the Eastern Conference, they were still swept from the playoffs by LeBron and his crew.

Now do I agree with Dwane Casey being fired as head coach? It's hard to say at this point. He was just voted coach of the year, and he brought the team to new heights during his tenure. But he did make some questionable decisions during the Raptors' match-ups against Cleveland, so again, I'm on the fence with this one.

Getting back into the swing of things, living here has been great so far for my family and I. There is no shortage of parks to go to during the nicer days, and my kids really have fun playing outside. So, hopefully, things continue to go well, both at home, and at the Advocate.

Thank you, and God Bless.
