Suspects in Lac La Biche murder arrested

On Jan. 20, RCMP in Two Hills arrested Lloyd Wesley Boudreau and Mandi Leigh Boucher, allegedly involved in the 2017 first-degree murder of 26-year-old Michael Matthew Mountain in Lac La Biche.

RCMP in Two Hills have arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the 2017 first-degree murder of 26-year-old Michael Matthew Mountain in Lac La Biche.

According to an RCMP press release, at about 4 p.m. Jan. 20, the RCMP Emergency Response Team along with Two Hills RCMP, RCMP Major Crimes Unit, Alberta Sheriffs, RCMP Police Dog Services and the Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit attended a residence in Two Hills.

The release states that 23-year-old Lloyd Wesley Boudreau of Lac La Biche, who has been charged with first-degree murder, was taken into custody without incident. It also states that at the residence, police arrested 26-year-old Mandi Leigh Boucher from the Buffalo Lake Métis Settlement, and she has been charged with accessory to murder in the homicide.

Boudreau and Boucher were remanded into custody and are set to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court Jan. 24.

The release states that RCMP would like to thank the public for tips in regards to this investigation, adding that no further information will be provided as this matter is before the courts.

History

According to a press release Oct. 29, 2017, RCMP responded to reports of gunshots at 10408 102 Ave. in Lac La Biche at around 4 a.m. Oct. 28. When they arrived, they found Mountain had suffered an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

A Nov. 7, 2017 press release states police had charged Boudreau with first-degree murder, and a warrant was issued. A Nov. 17 press release stated that Boucher had been reported missing to the Boyle RCMP Oct. 28.

A June 20, 2018 press release stated that since the investigation began, police followed up on tips that Boucher and Boudreau may have been seen in the areas of Lac La Biche, St. Paul, Boyle, Camrose, Edmonton, and Kamloops, B.C.
