Get ready for a night of celebration in the community as the local businesses nominated receive rewards for their efforts.

Athabasca District Chamber of Commerce member Noel Major said the fifth annual Business Awards Gala will includes a dinner along with some entertainment.

“This year, we have a speaker from Edmonton speaking on the power of ‘Yes,’ so we’ll see what that comes out to be,” he said. “But we try to keep things that can relate back to the business community.”

He added that because the gala is held during Small Business Week, the Rotary Club of Athabasca gives out their Rotary Integrity Award to a small business that represents the ideals of Rotary, but is not a Rotary business.

According to a Chamber of Commerce press release, a total of 77 eligible nominations were received this past July for 42 local businesses, individuals and organizations. Nominations were submitted by the community and sent to a panel of judges outside of the district.

The release also said Graham Neil is the speaker for the evening, and that his presentation “Power of Yes” shows participants creative techniques of improvisation and how to apply them to business and other aspects of everyday life.

Tickets are on sale now for $60, and can be bought through Noel Major at 780-213-4413, Servus Credit Union at 780-675-2977, Laurie (at The Photo Shoppe) at 780-609-0356, or online at eventbrite.com. A service charge may apply to online tickets.
