Athabasca is about to get a taste of eastern Canada.

The traditional Quebecois band Le Temps Antan will be playing at the Nancy Appleby Theatre next Wednesday as part of the Heartwood Folk Music concert series. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

The trio of musicians – André Brunet, Pierre-Luc Dupius and Éric Beaudry – have been playing music for most of their lives.

They each got their big break as part of La Bottine Souriante, a legendary French North American band.

Le Temps Antan came together officially in 2003.

Playing a variety of instruments, from the harmonica to the fiddle, the group plays a mixture of contemporary and traditional Quebecois music.

“It takes a special blend of musical flair to create memorable songs of yesteryear.

Songs with a hint of contemporary – dosed with uncontrollable laughter, deep-rooted couplets and sudden, impromptu shifts – that speak to familiar rhythms of the past,” it stated in their online biography.

The band has released three CDs.

They’re currently on tour across Canada and through Europe promoting their latest album, Ce Monde Ici-Bas.

Adult tickets are $22 in advance and $25 at the door while youth and seniors pay $19 in advance and $22 at the door. Children under 12 are free.

Tickets are available at Value Drugs, Whispering Hills Fuels or through Heartwood members.
