Crystal Plamondon will return home to perform at the Nancy Appleby Theatre Oct. 13 for the second show of the 2017 Heartwood Folk Club’s fall season.

Before her professional career was launched by an appearance on the CBC Radio program, The Tommy Hunter Show, Plamondon performed around Athabasca County in places like Colinton, Prosvita Hall, and Perryvale.

Originally from Plamondon, she said it is great to come back and play a show near home, especially during the year of the Heartwood Folk Club’s 20th anniversary.

“The people of Athabasca – they’re like family, they’re like hometown,” she said. “And I get to come home and sleep in my own bed. How often is that?”

She also said her Oct. 13 show will be a highlight of her whole career, including English and French songs from her seven albums, and that it will paint a very intimate portrait.

“When you come to my concert, after you leave you totally know me,” she said. “It’s very intimate, and I get the crowd involved. When I play a theatre is my favourite venue, especially a venue like that because it’s like people are sitting in your living room and you’re having a visit. A little down-home kitchen party.”

Plamondon added she thinks the community should come out to see her play because she played at a lot of their weddings 30 or so years ago. Her band is made up of Gord Matthews on guitar, John Calverley on violin, Chris Brzezicki on bass and Joe McIntyre on drums.

The concert is Friday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Adult tickets are $27 in advance or $31 at the door, youth 12-18 and seniors 65+ tickets are $24 in advance or $27 at the door. Children 12 and under are free.
