Get ready to skinamarinky-dinky-dink, Athabasca.

The Magnificent River Rats Festival Society is excited to announced the line-up of this year’s June 30 and July 1 festival.

Ida Edwards, president of the society, said the two main headliners would be family musical entertainers Sharon and Bram, and Canadian pop music band Doug and the Slugs.

Edwards said Sharon and Bram would interest all people, because some will remember watching them on TV years ago, and others will enjoy seeing their children and grandchildren enjoy their music.

“Anybody with children will have a really good time with their set,” she said.

As for Doug and the Slugs, Edwards said they have many classics from over the years that people will recall, including “Day by Day”, “Too Bad” and “Chinatown Calculation.”

“(It’s) good dancing, fun to listen to music. Kind of a west coast feel,” Edwards said.

In total the River Rats are bringing 13 groups for the two-day festival, including the returning Johnny McCuaig Band, a fusion of genres with a bagpipe, Alberta country singer Colleen Ray and the Celtic Derina Harvey Band.

Edwards said Canada 150 celebrations will interwoven throughout the festival, with the Canada Day parade, close-to-home music choices and pancake breakfast.

“Good family fun,” Edwards said. “I have expectations to see the attendance grow. We’re reaching out to the summer villages, Slave Lake and Lac La Biche, inviting our neighbours out.”
