Environment Canada's seven-day forecast is predicting a wet start to the week for the area, followed by summer weather.

ATHABASCA — More rain is on the way for Athabasca amidst growing concern of drought and fire risk across the province this spring.

Environment Canada’s seven-day forecast is predicting a rainy start to the week, with summer temperatures expected Wednesday through Sunday.

Showers are likely to continue throughout the day and into the evening, amounting to between 10 and 20 millimetres of precipitation. Wind speeds are expected to pick up overnight, reaching 40 kilometres per hour from the northwest.

Rain is predicted to continue throughout the day on Tuesday, May 7, with gusts remaining near 40 km/hr and daytime highs reaching eight degrees. Low chances of showers remain throughout the night.

Wednesday’s temperatures are expected to reach a high of 17 C, and Thursday’s forecast is calling for sunny skies and a high of 18. Friday will see a significant jump in temperatures, with an expected high of 26 C.

Locals can plan for summer weather over the weekend as well, with daytime highs expected to reach 23 C on Saturday,
25 C on Sunday and clear skies are anticipated.
