Take note of this date! The Rotary Club of Athabasca is excited to announce its upcoming Celebrity Dinner on April 26. This is a much-anticipated event that brings the community together for an evening of food, fun, and fundraising. This celebration is more than just a dinner – it's a symbol of community spirit, fellowship, and commitment to improving the quality of life in Athabasca.
"Our community really shines through these events," says Natasha Kapitaniuk, Athabasca Rotary Club President. "We've typically hosted a fundraising event like this every two years, except during the COVID pandemic. Our last one was in 2022, so we're eager to revive this tradition. These events not only raise funds for significant projects but also bring out the best in our community."
The Celebrity Dinner will be a special occasion. "It's also a celebration of coming out of winter together," Kapitaniuk adds. “The event promises a lovely meal, fellowship, and the chance to support a worthy cause.”
The fundraisers support major town projects and this year is no exception. Funds raised this year are earmarked for a shade pavilion at the riverfront. The envisioned structure would provide a space for picnic tables, offer rain cover, and ideally be equipped with solar panels. It might even feature a small stage for live performances.
"This has been on the town's mind for a long time. It will be a go-to gathering space, right beside where kids play," shares Kapitaniuk.
Success is almost certainly guaranteed, not just by the participants’ generosity and town spirit, but also by the host and auctioneer – both of which are no strangers to helping live events shine.
Guests will enjoy hypnotist Wayne Lee, known for his dynamic, entertaining, and engaging performances. Lee is a renowned peak performance expert, Hall of Fame speaker, and award-winning entertainer. He is famous for his captivating presentations that delve into the subconscious side of high performance, helping individuals and organizations achieve their full potential. In addition, acclaimed auctioneer Danny Hooper will be lending his talents to the event. Hooper, a renowned entertainer and fundraising professional, is known for his ability to engage audiences and generate generous bidding. However, the success of this event would not be possible without the support of the community.
"We are Rotary, and we facilitate these events, but it's the community that makes them successful," Kapitaniuk emphasizes. "From sponsors to volunteers, it takes a lot of people and a lot of help to create an event like this, and it all contributes to creating a better quality of life."
